Health Education Program
For Developing Communities
(The Most Important Knowledge)
PLEASE READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING:
--The Health Education Program For Developing Communities (HEPFDC) was developed to help US &
global physicians, families and communities save the most lives and prevent the most suffering through
health promotion and prevention of their most common and serious health conditions. However, there are
times when compliance with the best evidence-based guidelines may not be possible and procedures
may need to be modified (Lack of means to boil water for example), and guidelines also change as new
evidence becomes available. There may also be delays in the availability of updates.
--All matters of health require local healthcare provider supervision, and this program was not intended
as a substitute for that supervision.  Even our very best evidence-based sources include a disclaimer
for liability purposes, and we are also required to state the following: All reasonable precautions have been
taken to verify the information contained in this publication. However, the published material and
translations are being distributed without warranty of any kind, either express or implied. The
responsibility for the interpretation and use of the material lies with the reader. In no event shall the
authors, editors, reference sources, translators, publisher, HEPFDC, SOEHM or its associated non-profit
organizations be liable for damages arising from its use.
--The goal of this program is to provide the best available evidence-based life saving information to as
many people as possible. For this reason the program must remain available free or at cost and we have
granted permission to copy the program for non-profit educational purposes.

UPDATES:
The program has continued to be revised to incorporate new evidence-based information. We
have also continued to modify the wording of our materials as part of our goal to promote WHO
educational programs and evidence-based guidelines to the maximum extent possible.  You can click
on one of the Handbooks below to determine if your copy is the latest available edition.  The revision
date is found at the top of the "Table of Contents" page.  As health guidelines are continually changing,
you should also consult the WHO website
www.who.int for updates.  Evidence-based recommendations
for improvements to the program are very much appreciated and may be sent to
HEPFDC@gmail.com

IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE
THE MOST IMPORTANT KNOWLEDGE as reported in sections 2 & 3 of the HEPFDC is undergoing
revision to incorporate the following:
--COVID-19, SARS, Bird & Swine Flu, Ebola and other zoonoses (diseases transmited from animals to
humans) have now become our most important cause of unnecessary deaths and suffering.
--These are dramatically increasing due to wet markets, factory farms and our excessive use of animals for
food.
--COVID-19 as bad as it is, is only a CDC category 2-3, and scientists fear our
future pandemics may
be even worse.
THE GOOD NEWS IS:
--UN, WHO, CDC and other evidence-based reports document the
simple life-style change we can
easily make
to not only prevent future pandemics, but also WHO's three "Slow Motion
Disasters" of Non-Communicable Diseases, Climate Change, and Antibiotic Resistance.
--Note: There are some areas of the world where animal products are still necessary for adequate nutrition.
However this is definitely not the case for the US and most countries. In fact, long before COVID-19,
overwhelming scientific evidence had proven that our current use of animals for food had become a
leading
cause of death and disability.  Viral pandemics simply act more quickly.
--Fortunately, UN, WHO and CDC guidelines report there is much that
Each of Us Can Do

NAME CHANGE:
We changed the name of Health Education Program For Developing Countries to Health Education
Program For Developing
Communities in April 2016.  All communities are in ongoing stages of
development, and not always for the best.  In fact, people in so called "developed" countries are often
much more in need of evidence-based nutrition and other lifestyle guidelines than people in so called
"developing" countries.  And as reported by the WHO, unless that changes, the resulting "Slow Motion
Disasters," although preventable, will bankrupt "even the wealthiest countries."
